Your Oral Health and Pregnancy

Congratulations on your growing family!

As you may know, RiseWell began when my sister and co-founder, Kori, and her husband, John, were trying to get pregnant. In an effort to ensure the most optimal environment for their family’s health, they realized that so many of their household essentials, like toothpaste, were full of toxins. Soon afterwards, RiseWell (and baby Leo) was born. We believe that you shouldn’t have to compromise your family’s oral health — that you can have clean products with science-backed results

So, you won’t be surprised to hear from me that it is safe to get professional dental treatment while pregnant. Ideally, you’d wait until after delivery, but if you have an emergency, go see your dentist ASAP. (If you’re curious, the best time to get dental treatment during pregnancy is the second trimester.) The longer you wait, the more painful and expensive your treatment will get. Contrary to popular belief, x-rays are allowed during pregnancy. We use digital x-rays so there is less radiation involved, and we have lead aprons to keep you safe.

It’s critically important to know—if you’re not aware already—that there are links to premature birth and poor overall health. If you’re not healthy, we, as your medical professionals, need to make sure that you’re getting healthy to prevent any problems from arising.

For example, during pregnancy, your hormones may be changing as your progesterone and estrogen levels fluctuate. While it comes to your oral health, this may lead to a condition called pregnancy gingivitis. Your gums may bleed more easily, your teeth may feel more loose, and you may get little abscesses on your skin called pyogenic granulomas, which are nothing more than pimples. Don’t worry: They will go away, and they are not cancerous.

Take care of your oral health, and you’ll give your baby the best start in life. See your dentist in an emergency, use RiseWell products in your oral care routine, and enjoy this special time with your family!
