How to Use Mouthwash

Rinsing with mouthwash, aka oral rinse can be a beneficial complement to your daily brushing and flossing routine, but it’s the lesser-known of the three steps.

Though our alcohol-free RiseWell Alkalizing Mouthwash is formulated with all-natural and clean ingredients, it is actually a therapeutic mouthwash that actively reduces the growth of bad bacteria in your mouth. It is formulated with essential oils, such as wild mint and tea tree, that work wonderfully as disruptors of biofilm, which is a layer of protein with which plaque adheres. These essential oils also help reduce bad breath and gingivitis. The therapeutic mouthwash also contains sodium bicarbonate, which helps raise the pH level in your mouth away from the dangerous cavity-forming zone (5.5, if you’re curious), and xylitol, which inhibits the production of bacteria.

How to Use

Now, how do you use mouthwash properly? As long as you swish the rinse in your mouth for 30 seconds before spitting, there is no hard and fast way to do it. Some people like to rinse with water after using mouthwash to reduce the aftertaste. Personally, I don’t rinse afterward because I want the molecules to continue working after I spit. Some people use mouthwash once a day. I use mouthwash every time before I brush or floss, which is 2-to-3 times a day. Choose a method that works for you, using these guidelines:

Why Use It

Rinse with mouthwash before brushing to remove bacteria and debris, making it easier for your toothbrush and toothpaste to scrub away at the rest. Use mouthwash as often as you want—at least once—and preferably 2-to-3—times a day. It never replaces flossing and brushing, of course, but it should be a regular part of your oral routine. Don’t rinse with water after using mouthwash to maximize the benefits. Some people can’t stand the burn of mouthwash, but luckily, our alcohol-free, all-natural mouthwash has a pleasant taste.

Mouthwash is the easiest way to upgrade your oral health at home, and it will leave you feeling refreshed—immediately. Enjoy!
